Optional · full 90° side view, ear visible · experimental — the detector is trained mainly on frontal faces and true side profiles fail to read more often than not. Quarter profiles are the reliable option; treat this as a bonus that sometimes works.

Tip: hair covering your ear or jawline is the most common reason profile photos (Left Quarter, Right Quarter, and True Side Profile) don't read cleanly — tucking it back helps.

About you (optional)

Skippable

Comparing a few profile measurements against people with a similar research-classified background can be more accurate than a single universal average. This uses broad research categories, not a personal identity label, and skipping shows the universal average instead. Applies to just four metrics (nasofrontal, nasolabial, labiomental angles and mouth-to-nose width ratio) — the only ones the underlying paper (Wen et al. 2015) reports per group.

Tips for the most accurate reading
  • · Bright, diffuse, front-on lighting (window light works)
  • · Camera at eye level, not above or below
  • · Neutral expression — no smile, lips relaxed
  • · No filters, no makeup that changes contour
Quarter profile shots: turn your head about 60–75° (a strong 3/4 turn), not a full 90° side profile. The landmark model is trained on frontal faces and needs to see a hint of the far eye to lock on. Keep your chin level and the whole head in frame.
